Istra is the largest tourist region in Croatia with an administrative centre in the city of Pazin. On the Istrian peninsula, which lies on the northern part of Adriatic sea, summer air temperature reaches 30°C, sea around 25°C and entire region has over 2000 hours of sunshine. The coastline is rich with maritime towns while the inland is rich with acropolis shaped towns situated on high hills. Pula is the largest city in Istrian region with 60.000 inhabitants and lies on the most southern cape for over 3000 years. According to legend it was founded by Colchicines who refused to return home after their unsuccessful pursuit of the Argonauts and the stolen Golden Fleece. Romans have left significant monuments there as well as the most valuable antique monuments in Croatia. The most known is the Arena, the 6th largest in dimensions preserved amphitheatre. Today this city inspires numerous artists, where many cultural and historical monuments make a natural stage for organization of events of all different kinds.
